Update: Thursday, September 13

OE Choir Students & Parents,
As we progress through the school year planning our schedules carefully becomes more and more important.  Various concerts, performances and fun choir events will be here before you know it.  Congrats to our Madrigal Singers for a great first performance last Friday's home football game!  Also, thanks to everyone who attended the All-Choir Ice Cream Social and the parents who helped put the event together.
Now that we have a few weeks under our belt each choir is progressing nicely.  Remember: our level of focus, participation and enthusiasm during rehearsal directly impacts the quality of our performance.  Our goal is 100% of us giving 100%!
Peace.

CONCERT ATTIRE FORMS & PAYMENT
The Concert Attire Forms were sent home last week.  Forms are due back by September 19 along with payment.  Checks made payable to Olathe East High School or cash in a sealed envelope notated with the student name and amount should be stapled to each form.
Reminders:
  • Men needed to do a tux trade may do so without cost.
  • Men will not be wearing the "mandarin collar" tux shirt.  Each male singer (in a choir wearing a tux) must purchase a new straight collar tux shirt.
  • If you would like payment arrangements made for concert attire please contact Cates: dcatesoe@olatheschools.org.

OE AREA MEN'S FEST - THIS TUESDAY!
Tuesday, September 18, OE will host the men from the choirs of CT and PT for our OE Area Men's Fest.  All of our male singers will be excused from classes from 8a-Noon.  Pizza will be served at the conclusion of the festival.  Any OE men wishing to eat Pizza must bring $5 and turn it in to Cates or Mrs. Holthus by Monday, September 17.  Men may also choose to bring their lunch or eat during their lunch shift in the cafeteria.  All men are responsible for communicating with their teachers regarding work they will miss related to their absence.

ALL-DISTRICT/ALL-STATE PREP
Those students (10-12th grade) wishing to prepare for the All-District/State Choir audition must attend 1-2 prep sessions before and/or after school each week.  Sessions will take place before and after-school. We will select our 20 singers to send to the auditions in class on October 11.  Preparation is key to your success.

KMEA STATE MIDDLE LEVEL HONOR CHOIR AUDITIONS FOR FRESHMAN
Freshmen students have the opportunity to audition for the Kansas Music Educators middle level state honor choir.  Parents just need to send $5 (cash or check payable to Olathe East) with their child to Mrs. Holthus and we will make a recording of the student singing “Dona Nobis Pacem,” which we have been working on in class.  All recordings must be done and postmarked by Oct. 5th, so I’m encouraging the kids to schedule a time to record as soon as they are ready!
