WELCOME MR. SWEENEY, STUDENT TEACHER!
We are fortunate to have Mr. Andrew Sweeney, student teaching with Cates for the next several weeks. Mr. Sweeney is a graduate of Shawnee Mission East and is currently a student at K-State majoring in French and Choral Music Education. He is AWESOME! We are lucky to have him with us!
OE CHORAL FESTIVAL NEXT TUESDAY
The OE Choral Festival is next Tuesday, March 11 at 7:00p in the Auditorium. Student call time is 6:15p. The concert is required for Chorale, Armonizzare and Madrigal Singers and will also feature: Gold Rush from CT, Pizzaz from PT, our Jr. Hawks and a few of our award winning barbershop quartets!
GENERAL CHOIR AUDITIONS FOR 14-15
Choir auditions for students currently taking a choir class will begin Monday and run through Friday of next week, during classtime. Non-choir students who would like to audition may do so on Thursday, March 13 after-school. Audition results will be posted on Friday, March 14. The audition will consist of singing your part to the Alma Mater and a short sight-singing exercise.
MADRIGAL SINGERS AUDITIONS
Those students who make Chorale as a result of the General Choir Auditions may also audition for Madrigal Singers. These auditions will take place on April 3 after-school in the choir room. We take our top 6 soprano, alto, tenor and basses for a total of 24 in the group. The remaining high-scoring women will be placed in Armonizzare along with out most outstanding sophomore women. The Madrigals audition will consist of you singing your part to Exultate Justi, short sight-singing exercise, completing an audition form and meeting with Cates.
CONTEST SOLOISTS
If you have signed-up to take a solo to Regional Solo/Ensemble please double check that your name is on the list posted on the choir room door. To make our solo cut we will begin to record you singing 32 bars of each of your contest solos so our panel of judges can select our soloists who will represent OE. The recording may be completed and emailed to Cates by your voice teacher (dcatesoe@olatheschools.org) or done in class with Ms. Willbanks. Auditions must be submitted by: March 26. Our soloists list will be posted on March 28.
COMBINED REHEARSALS BEGINNING NEXT WEEK
Next week starts our Combined Men's, Combined Women's and Combined Chorale rehearsals in preparation for contest. These rehearsals are graded and required. Conflicts must be communicated in advance and entered into the conflict log from the home page of the choir website.

Wednesday, 7:20: Combined Men; 3:10: Combined Women
Thursday, ART: Combined Chorale
*Note that the online calendar reflects a few changes to the combined rehearsals--beginning with 3/12 men and women should rotate having rehearsal in the morning. On 3/26 the Women will meet in the morning and the Men in the afternoon.
